Southern Italy Tour

Discover Southern Italy, one of the most visited destinations in the world! Visit the famous city of Pompeii and Sorrento.

Then, Alberobello to admire the Trulli. We will then head south to visit Calabria, from where we will cross to Sicily.

Our first base is Taormina, which offers incredible views of Mount Etna. We will then spend three days exploring Siciliy, including a free day to explore the capital, Palermo.

DAY 1: ROME Meet your Private Guide and prepare for a great day.

Your Guide will show you ‘Rome, explore some of the iconic sights of the Eternal City including the Trevi Fountain, Piazza Navona, and the Pantheon.

DAY 2: SORRENTO Leaving Rome, we will head to Sorrento, stopping off along the way to explore the ancient ruins of Pompeii, destroyed in 79AD in a catastrophic volcanic eruption.

This area is also famous for limoncello (a sweet lemon liqueur).

DAY 3: SORRENTO Free day, Sorrento is our base for the day.

Explore the town in your own time, or alternatively choose our optional excursion to the famous Isle of Capri.

DAY 4: MATERA-ALBEROBELLO Today, we will explore Apulia, making a stop along the way in the ancient cave city of Matera. The city is famous for its extensive cave-dwelling districts, the ‘sassi’.

In Alberobello and enjoy a tour of the famous ‘trulli’ houses. These beautiful 14th century whitewashed stone huts have iconic conical roofs.

In the afternoon, we explore the trullo church of St Antony and the trulli museum.

DAY 5: TAORMINA Today we take a coastal drive beside the Ionian Sea before we take a short ferry ride over to the island of Sicily. Prepare for stunning views as we make our way to Taormina.

DAY 6: TAORMINA AT LEISURE Enjoy a free day to relax on beautiful beaches.

DAY 7: CATANIA-AGRIGENTO Today, we will drive through the heart of Sicily, along the way we stop in Catania, with its city center boasting many beautiful baroque buildings.

In the afternoon, we visit the Valley of Temples in Agrigento, one of the most outstanding examples of Magna Graecia art and architecture.

DAY 8: MARSALA-PALERMO Enjoy a beautiful drive this morning as we make our way around the western tip of Sicily to the island’s capital, Palermo.

Along the way, we’ll make a stop in Marsala, built on the ruins of a Carthaginian city, famous for its Marsala wine.

Arriving in Palermo, you will enjoy a walking tour to introduce you to the city’s highlights. Palermo is noted for its history, culture, architecture, and food.

DAY 9: PALERMO FREE DAY Enjoy the day to further explore Sicily’s capital.

Over the centuries Palermo has been colonized by many different peoples, including the Greeks, Romans and Normans, and Arabs. This melting-pot has resulted in a variety of architectural styles for you to explore in the historic old town.

Day 10: END OF TOUR IN ROME This morning we will arrive in Naples where travelers can choose to end their tour (with a drop off at the port), or continue on the couch with the Private Guide and make our way back to Rome, where the coach will drop you off at the hotel or Apt.
