Piazza Garibaldi in Reggio Calabria began as a parking project nearly nine years ago but transformed into a major archaeological and cultural rediscovery.

Excavations revealed Roman‑era remains, including a temple, linking the site to nearby Piazza Italia and highlighting the city’s ancient past.

Thanks to collaboration between local authorities and heritage experts, the square has been revitalized into a modern, accessible space while honoring its history.

With final touches underway and an opening expected this summer, Piazza Garibaldi is set to become a vibrant cultural hub and symbolic centerpiece of Reggio Calabria.
